FINAL RISING TOUR SHOW!

This Train Stops Here

October 4 - Shea Stadium, Flushing, NY

The final night at Shea and the final night of The Rising Tour. The previous nights were just a build up to what was nothing short of magical and spectacular! To kick things off Bruce dug back to the final night at MSG in 2000 with a tour premier of Code Of Silence to open what would become one of the most intriguing sets of this tour. the one two punch of the Rising and Lonesome Day were more powerful than ever leading into a riproaring Roulett and Night. Slowing things down Bruce settled us into the tour premier of I Wish I Were Blind and Empty Sky. After Waitin' On A Sunny Day, Bruce said "Welcome to the Last Dance," as to keep the show light-hearted and energetic at the same time. Other classics featured Johnny 99, Another Thin Line, Tunnel Of Love, Becaause The Night, Prove It All Night and the tour premier of Back In Your Arms Again highlighted this high energy set. Powerfull to say the least! And if that wasn't enough the encores were sure to suprise the Shea fan-faithful. For starters another 2000 tour regular made it's tour premier for this final stand-Light Of Day!  The second encore not only featured another tour premier but a cover featuring the legendary Bob Dylon guesting on vocals and guitar-Smokin! In a special dedication, Bruce described how much his hero ment to him. He  spoke of Bob Dylon, "who was willing to stand in the fire... he made me think big thoughts... got me thinking about the world outside my little town. I don't know if great men make history or if history makes great men, but I know Bob's one of the greatest. Now and forever. I dedicate this one to him tonight, and thank him for gracing my stage... when I wrote this one I was doing my best to follow in his footsteps." After speaking of vigelence and "the american way" Bruce said "I learned that from Bob Dylon" before launching into Land Of Hope And Dreams. Now it was time to party-Jokingly with a smile Bruce said, "Rosie...I'm home!" before ripping into the final Rosalita of the tour. Then Bruce pulled out all the stops with Jon Landou and Willie Nile guesting on Dancing In The Dark. But the party which was now almost over had just begun! More guest appearances by Gary US Bonds, his wife and Garland Jeffries featured performances of Twist & Shout and the tour premier of Quarter To Three!!! After pleasing the NY crowd on this final ride....the guest departed and Bruce gathered the E Street Band as he had done back in 2000 for one final moment in time with us all.....for now.....An emotional Blood Brothers ended the show and The Rising Tour for them and for all of us as well-And what a ride it has been!

RELEASE DATE SET FOR NEW SPRINGSTEEN COLLECTIONS!

In a press release from Sony records, the final details on track listings and release dates for two new Springsteen compilations coming out this November. More info is available below-Check it out!

"The Essential Bruce Springsteen" Definitive 3-CD Set Out November 11 Marks First Ever Career-Spanning Collection, Includes Never Before Released Outtakes and Live Recordings

"Live in Barcelona" Double-DVD Out November 18 Contains Entire October 2002 Barcelona Concert, Plus Bonus Featurette With New Interviews and Footage from U.S. "Rising" Tour Dates at Fenway Park, Giants Stadium, and More

Set for release in November from Columbia, 'The Essential Bruce Springsteen' 3-CD set and the DVD set 'Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: Live in Barcelona' explore Bruce Springsteen's prolific career and unmatched live show, on the heels of his most successful world tour ever.

The 'Essential' set, Springsteen's first ever career-spanning collection, includes songs from every Springsteen album since his debut. Set for release on November 11, the set comes packed with a third bonus CD of rarities and previously unreleased tracks. The double-DVD 'Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: Live in Barcelona,' out November 18, captures the experience of Springsteen and the Band's record-breaking 2002-2003 world tour, and includes new interviews in addition to bonus footage of this year's historic performances in Boston's Fenway Park and New Jersey's Giants Stadium.

'The Essential Bruce Springsteen,' featuring two discs of Springsteen's best-known songs, is the first such collection to range from early classics "Blinded By the Light," "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)," and "Rosalita," to his most recent hits such as "Mary's Place," "the Rising," and "Lonesome Day" from his 2002 release 'The Rising.'

The 'Essential' set will also include a third, limited-edition CD with rarities and previously unreleased recordings, each one annotated by Springsteen in the album's liner notes. The bonus disc includes songs never before released commercially, including "None But the Brave," recorded during the 'Born in the USA' sessions at the Hit Factory in New York City; live recordings of "Held Up Without a Gun" and Jimmy Cliff's "Trapped" from the breakthrough 'River' tour; the acoustic, country-blues version of "Countin' on a Miracle"; a home recording of "County Fair" recorded shortly after the 'Nebraska' album; and more.

The collection is part of a series of 'Essential' sets released by Columbia Records. Previous releases include 'The Essential Bob Dylan,' 'The Essential Johnny Cash,' 'The Essential Clash,' and others. 'The Essential Bruce Springsteen,' however, is the first in the series to include a bonus rarities disc.

'Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: Live in Barcelona,' includes the entirety of Springsteen and the Band's October 2002 concert at Barcelona's Palau St. Jordi, a show which prompted the Spanish newspaper El Pais to rave "The Boss made the walls of the Palau St. Jordi tremble." In addition, the set contains the featurette "Drop the Needle and Pray: The Rising on Tour," packed with never before seen material, including new interviews, footage from this summer's US stadium tour at Fenway Park and Giants Stadium, and a photo montage chronicling 'The Rising' tour.

The 2-DVD set contains almost three hours of footage, with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound audio recorded and mixed by 'The Rising' producer Brendan O'Brien. The concert in Barcelona, portions of which were broadcast on MTV Europe and CBS, was widely considered among the most exciting of the 120 dates on Springsteen and the Band's acclaimed 'Rising' world tour dates. Together with the bonus material and U.S. footage, the DVDs are a compelling document of one of the most sucessful concert tours of all time.

The executive producers of 'Live in Barcelona' are Jon Landau and Barbara Carr. The DVDs were produced by George Travis and directed by Chris Hilson. Thom Zimny, whose editing on the 2001 HBO concert special "Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band," won an Emmy, also edited 'Live in Barcelona.'

SPRINGSTEEN VISITS OLD MARK TWAIN HOUSE

It’s not everyday that The Mark Twain House plays host to such a musical great as Bruce Springsteen, better known to his fans as “The Boss.” After his arrival in Hartford he soon discovered that Mark Twain had once lived on Farmington Avenue so he decided to make a visit. Mr. Springsteen, along with his wife, several crewmembers and friends were hosted by Director John Boyer and Deputy Director Debra Petke. During his tour Bruce mentioned that he had recently reread Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. He and his wife, Patti Scialfa, were particularly interested in the Tiffany decorated Drawing Room. Hmmmmm....Investment opportunity for the Boss?

BRUCE TO PLAY SHEA!

An official Press Release from Shore Fire Media officially confirms "final tour dates" for Bruce Springsteens Rising Tour. The final performances will be at New York's Shea Stadium. Full details below.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 2, 2003

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND ANNOUNCE OCTOBER 1 AND 3 DATES AT NEW YORK'S SHEA STADIUM

Springsteen and the Band to play Shea Stadium almost 40 years after Beatles' historic first concert there.

Tickets go on sale September 8 for Grand Finale of 2002-2003 world tour.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will play New York's Shea Stadium October 1 and 3 for the final stop of their wildly successful 2002-2003 world tour. Tickets for the shows, Springsteen's first ever at Shea and the first major rock concert there in eleven years, go on sale September 8 at 10:00am.

Tickets will be available by phone via Ticketmaster at (212) 307-7171 or (212) 307-7200 (automated), or online at Ticketmaster.com.

When Springsteen and the Band perform at Shea Stadium, they will have played 119 concerts in 82 cities around the world, selling more than 3 million tickets since the tour began August 7, 2002, in East Rutherford, NJ.

Just three weeks ago, the San Francisco Chronicle's Joel Selvin wrote, "In front of his people, no entertainer on Earth has ever been more powerful, more persuasive than Bruce Springsteen."

According to Springsteen's longtime manager Jon Landau, "Over the last 30 years, New York has been central to Bruce's performing career. He played on the same bill with Bob Marley at Max's Kansas City in 1973, did his legendary Bottom Line shows in New York in 1975, played Madison Square Garden for the first time in 1978, and ended his 2000 tour with the E Street Band with ten shows at Madison Square Garden. So, it's extraordinarily appropriate that the grand finale of this most successful of all Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band tours will take place at New York's Shea Stadium. I'm sure they will be nights to remember."

The dates will be presented by Radio City Entertainment and the New York Mets.

"The New York Mets are thrilled that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will make their final stop of their world tour at Shea Stadium," said Dave Howard, Mets Executive Vice President, Business Operations. "We are excited to continue the long-standing tradition of bringing the finest artists in rock-n-roll history to Shea."

"It's only natural that this historic event will come about, since it takes advantage of two terrific partnerships - the New York Mets and Madison Square Garden, and, of course, the strong relationship between Madison Square Garden/Radio City Entertainment and the incredible Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band," commented Joel Peresman, Executive Vice President, Radio City Entertainment.

The Beatles played Shea Stadium in 1965, marking the first major stadium rock concert on U.S. soil. Springsteen and the Band's shows will mark the first major rock concerts at Shea since a 1992 show there featuring Elton John and Eric Clapton.

Update:

Due to overwhelming demand, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band have announced they are adding one more show to the dates at Shea Stadium... Saturday, October 4, 2003 at 7:30pm. This show marks the final date for their worldwide tour.

Tickets for this third and final show go on sale Wednesday, September 10 at 10am.

"DAYS OF HOPE AND DREAMS" & "SONGS"  RELEASED THIS FALL

While Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band play U.S. Stadiums later this year, a nice selection of new Bruce books will be hitting the stores.  Frank Stefanko's "Days of Hope and Dreams: An Intimate Portrait of Bruce Springsteen," will be released in August. This is a high-quality book of photographs from 1978-1982. Stefanko shot the album covers for both Darkness on the Edge of Town and The River, and his book will contain many never-before-seen Springsteen photographs from the Darkness, River, and Nebraska photo sessions. Expect approximately 80 photos in all. This looks to be a very exciting acquisition for Springsteen fans. And they are not the only one's excited about it-Springsteen himself has written the foreward for this book. Shortly after publication, fans can view an exhibition of Stefanko's work at Washington D.C.'s Govinda Gallery, from September 19 - October 18.

in addition, Harper Entertainment will issue the very first softcover edition of Springsteen's 1998 book, "Songs" sometime in August. No word on weather this edition will have a promo cd attached.

In October, a new Dave Marsh title is scheduled for release, called "Bruce Springsteen: Two Hearts." But instead of a third installment of his Springsteen biographies, "Two Hearts" combines Marsh's first two volumes on the Boss, "Born to Run" and "Glory Days," in a mammoth 688 page book. According to the book's publisher, Routledge, this new softcover edition brings readers up to Springsteen's current endevours: "Marsh has written a new chapter covering major developments in Springsteen's career to today, particularly focusing on his album The Rising and its impact on American culture."

Another October title includes "Bruce Springsteen's America: The People Listening, a Poet Singing," by Double Take Magazine's Robert Coles. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and Harvard professor, Coles was  introduced to many Springsteen fans at February's benefits in Somerville, MA.

You can Pre-Order both books now in our all new Books section.

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND ANNOUNCE WEST COAST STADIUM TOUR DATES

Springsteen and the Band to play their first show in San Francisco since 1978 (Pacific Bell Park, August 16) and first ever show at Los Angeles's Dodger Stadium (August 17).
Tickets on sale Monday, July 28 at 10:00am

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band have announced two new concert dates on the West Coast: August 16 at San Francisco's Pacific Bell Park and August 17 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. The shows are Springsteen and the Band's only stadium appearances in California scheduled for their current 2002-2003 world tour, and, along with an already announced date in Denver, CO, the tour's only West Coast concerts.

Tickets for both shows go on sale Monday, July 28 at 10:00 am. Visit Ticketmaster.com or contact the venues for specific information on ticket sales.

The California dates are historically significant for Springsteen and the Band, marking their first concert ever at Dodger Stadium and their first concert in the city of San Francisco since a 1978 show at the legendary Winterland club.

These dates extend Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's 2002-2003 tour - widely considered the best and most successful in the world of the last year. Since it began on August 7, 2002, Springsteen and the E Street Band have sold an astonishing near-3 million tickets worldwide, including 1.1 million on their recent 24 date, 13 city European tour and over 1.1 million so far for this summer's US stadium tour.

Opening the current US run (and a historic 10-show run at Giants Stadium) on July 15, Springsteen and the Band drew critical praise. USA Today's Elysa Gardner wrote, "...This homecoming party proved an unqualified, and timely, success."

The New York Times' Michael Wilson called the 10-show run "one of the biggest stories in open-air entertainment since the Christians and the lions," while the New York Daily News' David Hinckley described the crowd's reaction as "a roar that could be heard practically in Atlantic City."

ADDITIONAL STADIUM DATES ARE COMING!

The following article from Billboard magazine mentions the success of Bruce Springsteen's stadium tour, Fenway Park and  the addition of more "stadium dates"  to be announced this month!

All Hail Bruuuce!
Sat Jul 5, 1:58 PM ET

By Ray Waddell

NASHVILLE (Billboard) - In what is shaping up as his most successful world tour in nearly 20 years, Bruce Springsteen has added more U.S. stadiums to his summer route, including an inaugural rock engagement at Boston's legendary Fenway Park.

Any doubts about Springsteen's stadium-level attraction have been erased by the huge numbers he is garnering in Europe and the United States. Springsteen sold 1.1 million tickets in 24 European stadiums this year, according to his handlers. This came on the heels of 46 worldwide arena dates.

In the U.S., he has sold nearly 1 million tickets for his stadium shows, which begin July 15 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Though the 30 or so U.S. stadium shows will be in Springsteen's most loyal markets, there is no denying that this is an impressive run for an artist more than 30 years into a national touring career.

Since last August, Springsteen has sold about 3 million tickets on his tour with the E Street Band in support of his 2002 Columbia release "The Rising." His 41 North American arena dates grossed $47 million and drew close to 650,000, according to Billboard Boxscore data.

With the European shows completed, the tour is about to shift into another gear. "Right now, we have 23 stadium shows on sale, and around 20 of them are virtually sold out; the other three are close to it, with plenty of time before the shows come up," says Jon Landau, Springsteen's longtime manager.

The final European show -- June 28 at Stadio Meazza in Milan -- drew 61,000 ecstatic fans. Landau describes it as "one of the four or five best Bruce shows of all time."

That triumph followed other winning dates, including two shows in Gothenburg, Sweden, that drew 57,000 each, and two shows in Helsinki that drew a combined 110,000.

"We were on fire over there," Landau says.

In terms of numbers, Springsteen's upcoming run at Giants Stadium is unequaled. By the time he wraps his 10 stadium dates, Springsteen will have sold a record 550,000 tickets, grossing in the $37.8 million range -- another record. Tickets are priced at $55 and $75.

The previous one-act world-record gross was from seven Rolling Stones sellouts at the Tokyo Dome in 1995 that drew 285,294 people and grossed 2.5 billion yen ($27.6 million). The multi-act Woodstock '99 bill grossed $28.8 million.

Springsteen will also top his own personal and U.S. box-office record of $19 million from 15 shows that drew 304,785 people in summer 1999 to the Continental Airlines Arena, which is also part of the Meadowlands Complex that includes Giants Stadium.

FENWAY'S GLORY DAYS

As impressive as the New Jersey numbers look, what Springsteen is pulling off in Boston is, in many respects, equally noteworthy.

The artist had already nearly sold out two shows at Boston's Gillette Stadium for Aug. 1-2 when he announced two shows at the legendary Fenway Park, home to the Boston Red Sox. The stadium's only other music event was held in 1973, when Fenway hosted George Wein's Newport Jazz Fest, with a bill that included Stevie Wonder.

The Springsteen camp has a Boston connection. "Bruce Springsteen's manager, Jon Landau, and tour manager, George Travis, are both from Boston," points out Dave Marsden, VP/director of bookings for Clear Channel Entertainment, promoter for the Boston shows. "Apparently, Bruce had some dates in early September, and somebody at his camp looked and saw the Red Sox were out of town for 10 days in that time frame."

Springsteen's management asked CCE to check into the possibility of doing a show at Fenway. The last time any promoter had pitched a show for Fenway was in 1991, when a proposal to bring in Paul McCartney never came to fruition.

The Springsteen situation fell into place. "They approached us with a can-do attitude, and we felt we should take a good, hard look at it," says Larry Cancro, senior VP of Fenway Affairs and a 19-year Red Sox veteran. "The 1973 event was just a partial use of the ballpark. This will really be the first time we've had a concert at Fenway."

The Springsteen camp's willingness to include Sox season-ticket holders in the equation with a presale was "a distinct benefit" to bringing in the show, Cancro says. About 80% of the season-ticket holders took advantage of the option.

Including on-field seating, capacity for the Sept. 6-7 shows will be 36,298 each, bringing Springsteen's Boston potential total to 150,000 from four shows.

Fenway will be used under a rental agreement, and the team will keep concession revenue.

Modern, lighter staging and equipment, along with improved field-protection systems, also helped make the concert happen. Asked whether Springsteen's shows would open the door to more concerts at Fenway, Cancro stresses that this is an unusual situation.

"What made this work particularly well for this artist is we looked at his demographic and compared it to our crowd, and we realized we would be doing the same thing we normally do," Cancro says. "We're just going to do it with seats on the field and with music instead of baseball. This is something we know we do well."

The Boston market responded. The Fenway shows went on sale June 27, and all tickets for both shows were gone in less than an hour. "Bruce has never played a stadium date in our market, and now we've got four," Marsden says. "Without question, Bruce Springsteen is at the very top echelon of artists here in the Boston market."

HOPING FOR A HOME RUN

When the concert is in the books, Cancro says, the Sox organization will evaluate how well it went. "Considering this just fell into our laps, the prudent thing to do is see how it works out and whether it's a home run or something that needs to be refined before we do it again. We're going to try our best to make sure this is a great event in every way--not just for the people attending but also for the neighborhood and the people of Boston. I will say it has created quite a buzz."

Springsteen will play three other Major League Baseball parks on this trek: Chicago's U.S. Cellular Park (Aug. 13), Detroit's Comerica Park (Sept. 21) and Milwaukee's Miller Park (Sept. 27).

Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill, N.C. (Sept. 14), and Ralph J. Wilson Stadium in Buffalo, N.Y. (Sept. 20), have also been added to the itinerary, joining Denver's Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium (Sept. 25), Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia (Aug. 8, 9 and 11), Pittsburgh's PNC Park (Sept. 6), FedEx Field in Washington, D.C.(Sept. 14), and the 10 Giants Stadium dates (July 15, 17, 18, 21, 24, 26 and 27 and Aug. 28, 30 and 31).

Additional stadium dates will be announced this month, with the tour expected to end on or around Sept. 30.

The summer Springsteen run comes at a time when stadium tours are almost nonexistent on the touring landscape. Metallica (news - web sites)'s Summer Sanitarium metal package and the Rolling Stones' scattered international Licks stadium dates are the lone tours hitting the biggest venues this summer.

Springsteen last toured stadiums in 1985 to close out his Born in the USA tour. He was the top-grossing act of that year, earning about $37 million and drawing more than 2.1 million fans.

As for those who thought the artist no longer had stadium-level box-office clout, Landau -- and the ticket tallies -- say: "They were wrong."

MORE DATES AT FENWAY?

According to the Boston Globe, "Word around Yawkey Way is that the Red Sox and rocker
Bruce Springsteen are looking to add as many as two more dates to the two concerts at Fenway Park." On Tuesday, the city of Boston granted permits for the September 6 & 7th concerts, which sold out in less than an hour. The shows will be permited under certain conditions: no festival seating(hence, no GA tickets sold), no opening act, and the concerts must end by 11pm sharp! According to the Globe,"
Springsteen & Co.don't play again until a Sept. 13 concert at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.,and the Sox won't return to Fenway until Sept. 12." You can read the full article at the Boston Globe website.

"SURPRISES" FROM E-STREET THIS SUMMER!

In a recent Billboard.com article, E Street Band guitarist, Steve Van Zandt said that the E Street Band is "absolutely an ongoing concern." that has plans to continue working after the conclusion of the summer tour. "From here on in, it will be new stuff, and we're in the active band cycle of album-tour-album-tour—I hope forever."

Steve also mentions that fans can expect a lot of "surprises" when the E Street Band returns to the States for it's New Jersey homestand, beginning July 15 in East Rutherford, N.J. Although he notes that the band's current show is still based on last year's Columbia album "The Rising," Van Zandt says, "It's a very different show than the one we started with."

Steve also talks in great detail about the Europeon leg of the tour and his own "Underground Garage" syndicated radio show. Check out  Billboard.com for the full article: "Van Zandt Promises E Street Band Surprises."

COULD THIS BE THE END FOR THE PONY...OR JUST THE BEGINNING?

STONE PONY SOLD TO DEVELOPER

The following articles were published regarding the sale of The Stone Pony and its future:

Owner agrees to sell Asbury Park landmark to developer

By JOHN CURRAN
Associated Press Writer

ASBURY PARK, N.J. (AP) - The owner of the Stone Pony, who once said waterfront developers would get control of it only "over my dead body," has agreed to sell to them, putting the famed shore nightclub's future in jeopardy -- again.

Domenic Santana will sell the building and transfer its liquor license to Asbury Partners, a company overseeing a $1.2 billion makeover of the city's decrepit waterfront.
Under the sale agreement, Asbury Partners could demolish the building, build a new club elsewhere in the city and call it the Stone Pony, while Santana would be allowed to use the name to promote concerts, he said Monday.

In addition, he will stay on under a management contract while Asbury Partners decides what to do with it, he said. "If you can't beat `em, join `em," said Santana. "I'm in a no-win situation. I can't be throwing rocks in progress' way and fighting the developers. They have big pockets for legal bills. It was the lawyers who were going to make a lot of money out of both of us," he said.

Santana, of Jersey City, bought the club for $375,000 four years ago. He wouldn't say how much the sale price will be. Several calls to Asbury Partners chief operating officer Larry Fishman were not returned Monday.

The City Council is to vote on transfer of the liquor license to Asbury Partners on Wednesday, clearing the way for a sale in early July, Santana said.

Famous as a former stomping ground of Bruce Springsteen and other Jersey rockers, the club was the subject of a grassroots "Save the Stone Pony" campaign after it appeared headed for demolition as part of the waterfront development.

But supporters, calling it a landmark worth saving, rallied and persuaded the city and Asbury Partners not to raze it. At a January 2002 rally, Santana promised not to let it go without a fight.

"There is no dollar value on an icon that means so much to American rock and roll," he told about 100 supporters. "Read my lips: Hell no, we won't go. Over my dead body!"

He said Monday that liability worries after the Rhode Island nightclub fire, together with the fact that the redevelopment plan calls for surrounding it with condominiums, made him realize he could not keep the club where it is. When asked the purchase price, Santana said: "I can't say, but I'm smiling."

Stone Pony fans may not be. Don Stine, a bookstore owner who co-chaired the Save the Stone Pony Committee, said the building was a magnet for music buffs who come to Asbury Park to see it. Building a new club and calling it the Stone Pony wouldn't be the same, he said. "I honestly don't know what this action means for the future of the Stone Pony. I'm not optimistic. I feel the building is obviously threatened."

Santana said he believes the building will ultimately be demolished as part of the waterfront redevelopment. "There will be fans who will be disappointed. To them I say, change is inevitable. To go forward for the benefit and success of an enduring American treasure - the whole city of Asbury Park - we need to look beyond."

In another article from the Asbury Park Press, it appears that the Stone Pony may remain where it is with some renovations planned for the near future:

New owners say Stone Pony will not be razed after sale

Published in the Asbury Park Press 7/01/03
By NANCY SHIELDS
COASTAL MONMOUTH BUREAU, ASBURY PARK --

The partnership firm buying The Stone Pony says it plans to upgrade the club -- not tear it down.

"It is our intention to upgrade the facility -- put in new air conditioning, a new dance floor, upgrade the rest rooms, the kitchen," said Larry Fishman, chief operating officer of Asbury Partners, the purchaser. "We possibly may upgrade the whole building with the intent of using The Stone Pony as a major tourist attraction for people coming to Asbury Park."

Dominic Santana, the owner who once vowed not to sell the club, is happy. He'll remain as manager, and the agreement allows him to expand the musical influence of the name Stone Pony. It's a name made famous by one of its early stars -- Bruce Springsteen -- who sometimes still drops by. He said the sales agreement gives him the right to use the name Stone Pony Presentations and sponsor concerts in other cities.

Santana purchased the building for $375,000 four years ago. Neither he nor Fishman would discuss the current purchase price. But Santana pointed out he is the third owner of the club and the first two filed for bankruptcy.

"I'm the first ever to walk away with pocket change," he said.

Music lovers had been leery of the purchase since the Press broke the news about it in January. They feared Asbury Partners, which is overseeing a $1.3 billion redevelopment in the city, would raze the Stone Pony and replace it with condominiums.

The transfer of the liquor license from Santana and his partners to Asbury Partners is on the City Council agenda tomorrow, but City Clerk Stephen M. Kay said yesterday he did not know if the police background check would be completed that quickly.

In responce to these recent events, Asbury Park City Councilwomen Kate Mullena made the following comments in a letter made public today:

Greetings from....the usual place....

A certain highly visible Asbury Park business owner -- whose name I will
not mention -- has apparently told one or more reporters "off the record"
that Asbury Partners (our beachfront redeveloper) has plans to move the
Stone Pony to the Casino or Power Plant after they purchase it in the
coming week or so.

I talked to Asbury Partners CEO Larry Fishman today (and heard him address
this subject in public more than once in the last week), and he has assured
me that they have *NO* plans to move (or close) the Stone Pony. In fact,
Larry said that they plan to upgrade the lighting and sound, restore the
broken air conditioning, etc., on the building, and to continue running it
in the exact same location, in the same spirit, as it currently operates.

Larry also reaffirmed that there are NO plans to fire or replace the
current staff.

I imagine that the rumors will be flying in the coming days (the press is
all picking up on this off-the-record claim and on the actual sale), but I
have no reason to suspect that anything under-handed is going on -- at
least on the part of the Fishmans. (Based on what I know behind the
scenes, I also firmly believe that the Fishmans did NOT force anyone out of
business who wasn't more than ready to go and who wasn't originally
interested in moving it himself.)

One reporter for a New Jersey newspaper did ask Larry Fishman today if he
was claiming that the club would NEVER, EVER be moved, and Larry (naively)
gave him an honest "well, you can 'never say never' about anything" type of
answer, so the reporter immediately went looking for fans who would go on
record saying they thought the Fishmans were secretly plotting the Pony's
death and/or move and couldn't be trusted.

Actually, however, I do believe their claim that they're planning to keep
it operating where it is -- if for no other reason than they know it would
public relations SUICIDE to claim one thing and then do another in this
highly visible case.

I hope you will pass this message on to any chat groups, etc. where people
may be expressing concern and, as always, you can bet that I'll be the
first to sound the alarm if I ever suspect that the Pony is in danger.

Thanks to all,

Kate Mellina
(Asbury Park City Councilwoman)

TWO FENWAY SHOWS SELL OUT IN UNDER AN HOUR!

In just under 15 minutes the first date for Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band's scheduled performance at Boston's Fenway Park was sold out. Another show was added shortly thereafter, only to sell out in about the same amount of time. Some reports have certain ticket seekers shut out after only five minutes! It appears that the majority of tickets to this coveted event were sold in a pre-sale this past Wednesday to Red Sox season ticket holders. The first ever full concert performance in this fabled ballpark is scheduled for September 6 & 7, 2003. But permits allowing the performances to go on still have to be approved by the city of Boston.

Fenway Update: The two Springsteen concerts at Fenway Park have been issued permits by the city of Boston. The show will have a curfew(and you thought those were only for children!) which allows each concert to begin at 7:30 pm and must end by 11:00pm sharp! Now that's cutting it close kiddies! Be good students of the Boss and be on time for once! (or is that twice?)

BRUCE TO PLAY BALL - WELL SORTA.....

Could Bruce Springsteen be pitchin his greatest hits to a Ballpark crowd before he hangs up his Rising rock n' roll shoes? Boston's Fenway Park & New York's Yankees Stadium are both rumored to be rockin to the sounds of Glory Days and other Springsteen hits in early September of this year. This might be better than watchin the World Series!

According to the Boston Herald Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band could be performing at Fenway Park on September 6 & 7th.

``It was all Bruce's idea,'' according to an undesclosed source. ``He thinks baseball stadiums are underutilized during road trips.''

According to the article, ``The arrangements are in progress.'' We shall see how all this turns out.

The E Street Band's homestand at Fenway is supposedly part of Springsteen's Major League ballpark tour, dubbed the ``Glory Days Tour,'' which could have Bruce & Co. playing Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field this summer as well.

Update:  Although nothing has been officially confirmed at this point, rumors continue to circulate about Springsteen's possible performance at Fenway Park in Boston. According to the June 15 edition of the Boston Globe, "The Red Sox owners have asked the city's permission to host two Bruce Springsteen concerts at the fabled ballyard." The dates planned are, in fact, September 6 and 7. A public hearing "to gauge public opinion" is scheduled for June 23 to determine if a license should be granted.

In recent developments to a previous rumor, Milwaukee's Miller Park has also been added to the list of possibilities as a Septenber 27 date is being considered for inclusion on the Glory Days ballpark tour.

**************************************************************

Please be advised that this is only a rumor at this point, although sources indicate that this one could be on the money. There has been no official word regarding a Baseball Park tour from Springsteen Management. So, as usual, take it with a grain of salt.We shall see how this one turns out! Play Ball might have a new meaning by September!.......Ohhhhhhh Glory Days!

BRUCE AND HARLEY'S 100th?

From the June 5, 2003 editions of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Rumor of Springsteen at Harley's 100th denied. Rumors of Bruce Springsteen's return to Milwaukee for a late summer show are, so far, just that - rumors.Buzz around town has The Boss turning up at the Harley-Davidson 100th Anniversary Celebration Aug. 28 to 31, or perhaps taking over Miller Park in late September after the Brewers season ends.

It would take a bend in the time-space continuum to have Springsteen at Harley-Davidson's centennial hootenanny, however: Bruce and his E Street Band are performing Aug. 28, 30 and 31 at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

As for a Miller Park date, Rick Schlesinger, executive vice president for business operations, said, "There's no announcement to be made because there's no concert that we have."

Springsteen's New York-based publicist, Harris Cohen of Shorefire Media, said he had "no information" on any upcoming Milwaukee dates for the American icon, either.Madison-based Frank Productions, which has brought Springsteen to town in the past, did not return phone calls seeking comment on a possible show.

According to official site BruceSpringsteen.net, Boss and band have announced only two September dates: FedExField in Landover, Md., on Sept. 13 and Denver's Invesco Field at Mile High on Sept. 25.

When it comes to tour routing, Denver isn't that far from Milwaukee. Stay tuned.

- Gemma Tarlach and Dave Tianen

**************************************************************

According to reliable sources, a rumor has been floating around which has Bruce & Co. playing Milwaukee on September 27th. But it is interesting to note that this is the exact date of last years Rising tour show, Sept. 27, 2002. While we suspect the show rumors to be just that-rumors, we will keep you advised as to any potential addition to tour dates as well as any ticket info as necessary.  So be sure to keep it right here!

A LITTLE HELP FROM HER FRIENDS

BRUCE AND PATTI APPEAR AT SOOZIE'S RECORD RELEASE PARTY

Springsteen made his third Jersey-area appearance in four days, this time, at the Stone Pony. On Friday night, May 2, E Streeter Soozie Tyrell celebrated the release of her solo album, White Lines, with a show at the Asbury Park club. Both Springsteen and Patti Scialfa came by to watch, and to take part as well. Soozie, who sang and played both fiddle and guitar, had a full band with her (two guitars, bass, keyboards and drums). Later, she called up "two of my closest friends" to help her out, and Bruce & Patti helped her out as backing vocalists for "Ste. Genevieve," a song from White Lines she called "my personal favorite... the best song I've ever written."  Later that same evening, Bruce and Patti returned to the stage,  for the encore. This time, Bruce picked up the guitar for a cover of Bobby Womack's "It's All Over Now" - With Bruce at center mic, Patti on backup vocals, and Soozie on violin. At the conclusion of the show, Bruce and Patti both gave Soozie a big hug. They were very proud of her. As Soozie left the stage, the crowd yelled "Soozie! Soozie!" She put on an incredible show.

The show included solo and intertwining performances from Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Southside Johnny, Gary US Bonds and Bobby Bandierra, himself.

Songs ranged from covers of old blues tunes and rock n' roll clasics to material from each artist's own repetiore. The highlightes included, Here Comes The Sun, This Time It's for Real, Just Older, David Bowie's Heroes, New Orleans, Jole Blon, This Little Girl, The Fever, Tenth Avenue Freeze Out, Kitty's Back and a duet with Bon Jovi for Thunder Road, & Rosalita to close the main set. Jon waved farewell to the audience, saying, "See ya at the Meadowlands this summer!" We can't wait! There could be some interesting surprises in store for the fans of both artists for sure!

Havin A Party, Twist & Shout & Quarter To Three headlined the encores.

Bobby, who had been on stage most of the night, finally took the mic to say "Thank you everybody...I can't say enough." He dedicated the final song, "I'll Never Find Another You" by The Seekers, to his son. Before leaving the stage, Bruce concluded the night by saying everybody was here because "Bobby has saved all of our asses so many times over the years..." For those who were there it was a very special night!

BRUCE REHEARSES NEW SONG: "DEVILS AND DUST"

During rehearsal on April 11 in Vancouver Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band soundchecked a new song called "Devils and Dust." It has been said that the melody was reminiscent of "Blood Brothers." The song appears to have been inspired by the situation over in Iraq and the US war against Saddam Hussain. The lyrics included lines such as "hate's a powerful thing" and "a world of earth and oil"  We are wondering as much as you might be, when (if at all) will fans get a first listen?
