Springsteen and Me: a teacher's journey and a new novel

Hello everyone. For 30 years I have taught various lessons on Springsteen in my high school classes. It has been a terrific ride and so inspiring to have the backing of the E Street Band and Bruce as the soundtrack for my class. So the result is this novel that is just out on two web sites: Create Space (my distributer/ publisher) and Amazon. I would love to talk to anyone regarding this book...here is a summary:

Meetings at the Metaphor Cafe
By Robert Pacilio

Meetings at the Metaphor Cafe is narrated by four high school students trying to make sense of a complicated, fearful America. Maddie holds her breath each night as the reports of the war dead soberly flash across the screen-knowing her father's picture could be there any day. Mickey must face his parents with the truth about how their dreams for him are not his own. Rhia is stunned by her father who, without warning, abandons his family. And Pari deals with being "the Muslim girl" in a post 9.11 world. These four gather at the Metaphor Cafe and reflect on the inspirational lessons of their English teacher, Mr. Buscotti, who helps them to navigate their troubled waters. They come to understand the powerful words of writers from Twain to Springsteen, discovering that the Metaphor Café is a state of mind-like slavery was and freedom is. They learn as long as they keep their minds open and their eyes focused on their True North, then they will never be lost.

Springsteen's Audibles Can't Stump Nils Lofgren And E Street Band
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are taking cover requests from the audience on the current tour.

As Bruce Springsteen calls out surprise after surprise on his current concert tour, the members of the E Street Band are having the time of their lives, according to guitarist Nils Lofgren.

"With the new album ('Working On a Dream') and everything, I didn't expect to get to this point, with all the audibles and improvisations, until much deeper in the tour," Lofgren tells Billboard.com. "It's just born of years and years of doing this with Bruce, and we're taking it to a new level. It's exciting and it's challenging. You accept that sometimes you never know what's coming around the bend and just go with it.

"I just know the shows are great, and it's heartening to see that after all these years of doing it, we're playing what we think are the best shows we've ever done. It's exciting for guys who have been around this long."
"I just know the shows are great, and it's heartening to see that after all these yeas of doing it, we're playing what we think are the best shows we've ever done. It's exciting for guys who have been around this long."

Springsteen and company are still thrilling fans with gems from his own catalog, but the story of the tour has been the covers -- something Springsteen has always done but this time he's pulling out ad hoc, usually fan-requested choices such as the Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated," the Who's "My Generation," the Rascals' "Good Lovin'," the Kingsmen's "Louie Louie," the Soul Survivors' "Expressway to Your Heart," Willie Dixon's "Seventh Son," and ? and the Mysterians' "96 Tears." Springsteen has dubbed the E Streeters "the greatest bar band in the land," and Lofgren says it's a tag the group wears proudly.

But, he adds, "There's just not bar bands of this caliber, with a leader like we have. But, yeah, we all learned how to play in cover bands and cut our teeth on an incredible wealth of catalogs like Motown, Stax Volt, the British Invasion, blues...We're a hard group to stump." Lofgren acknowledges that he sometimes gets to the venues early to "prepare" for that night's festivities, even though he notes that "you never know what's coming." The off-the-cuff choices have also sent the Teleprompter crew scrambling to the Internet for lyrics.

The North American leg of the tour wraps May 23 in East Rutherford, N.J., with the European leg kicking off a week later at the PInk Pop Festival in Holland. There are rumors of more dates for the late summer and fall, but nothing has been announced beyond Aug. 2 in Santiago, Spain.

"Certainly there's talk about (more shows)," Lofgren says, "but it's kind of stream of consciousness, not something that's booked a year and a half in advance. I'm sure Bruce and Patti (Scialfa) will evaluate what's going with their family and decide whether or not they're gonna do (more), and we'll go from there."

Wanted: Bruce Springsteen Fans in Central Pennsylvania

Hey All,

I'm a journalist with The Patriot News and I would like to interview a bunch of Bruce fans who are going to the Bruce Springsteen concert in Hershey on 5/15 who also went to the Springsteen concert last August.

The angle of the story is we are looking for fans who attended both concerts and getting a feel for what they are looking for this year, and what is drawing them back.

Feel free to PM me or respond to the thread. The interview will consist of two simple questions:

1) What is luring you back to a concert you saw 9 months ago at the same venue?

2) What would you want to hear and see this time around.

All responses are greatly appreciated, and will be published in an upcoming issue of The Patriot News/Go! Magazine. We would also appreciate, if you are willing, head shots to accompany the sidebar. These head shots can be taken with a cell phone/digi cam/whatever.

Thanks, guys!

I was watching Bruce on youtube when he played columbus,Oh.One thing that stood out was when Bruce said "I want my home back".I found it ironic since Bruce is a multi multi multi millionaire, who doesn't stand a chance of ever losing his home.I find it very sincere that he's stood up for those less fortunate than him. I still admire bruce for all his hard work and total dedication.

Ticketbastard's 'official' Apology

An Open Letter of Apology to Bruce Springsteen, Jon Landau and the entire Springsteen Tour Team:

While we were genuinely trying to do the right thing for fans in providing more choices when the tickets they requested from the primary on-sale were not available, we clearly missed the mark. Fans are confused and angry, which is the opposite of what we hoped to accomplish. We sincerely apologize to Bruce, his organization and, above all, his fans.

We recognize that we need to change our course. We have committed to Bruce and state publicly here that we have taken down all links for Bruce's shows directing fans from Ticketmaster to TicketsNow. This redirection only occurred as a choice when we could not satisfy fans' specific search request for primary ticket inventory, but to make sure there is no misunderstanding in the future, we also publicly state that we will never again link to TicketsNow in a manner that can possibly create any confusion during a high-demand on-sale. Specifically, we will not present an option to go to TicketsNow from Ticketmaster without the consent of the artist and the venue, both of whom work together to bring the joy of live entertainment to millions of fans.

If any fans inadvertently purchased tickets in the resale marketplace believing in error they were purchasing from the initial on-sale, we will refund the difference between the actual purchase price and the face price of the ticket. (Please don't abuse this good faith gesture as we did not give brokers any preferential access to tickets.)

We are committed to helping deliver the most transparent and best live entertainment experience to fans. We will do better going forward.

Sincerely,

Irving Azoff, CEO, Ticketmaster Entertainment

NEWARK - The Office of the Attorney General and the Division of Consumer Affairs are investigating Monday's sale of Bruce Springsteen concerts tickets after consumers complained about problems they encountered during attempted online purchases.

"Consumers are questioning what transpired and if they had an equal opportunity to purchase these concert tickets. We share these concerns and are investigating this matter," Attorney General Anne Milgram said.

More than 250 consumer complaints have been received as of midday today. The Division of Consumer Affairs has placed an icon labeled "Bruce Springsteen/Ticketmaster Complaints" on its main web page for consumers to link to an online complaint form.
